The party opened up with the talented Brad Marrinar giving up a few solo acoustic tunes on his ukulele and charmed the house full of friendly blues loving folks who came along despite the weird weather.
The Tom Poole and his band got the juke joint jumping with some blues standards as guests chowed down on their eats and treats.
new published author - Norman Reeley came up on the floor where I interviewed him about his conviction and tenacity to sit down and write a novel. Looking dapper in his jacket, neck scarf and tartan trousers, this native Scottish writer began to read from one of the chapters in his novel - Malevolent Karma.
The band came up again and really started to turn up the boogie woogie and the jivers took to the floor to work off their dinner. After this set, we settled into the Raffle.
The Raffle consisted in a number of gift certificates from local business, which we always like to promote by talking about them over the microphone to the crowd. Jill Cole of Zahra Sugaring & Beauty of Benitachell gave a 20 euro pamper treatment session. Trudi van Dorp, Reiki Master, offered a 25 euro treatment. Studio H of Moraira offered a 65 euro pamper session at their studio which can be found on the coast road to Calpe. AloeLand gave away a bottle of its famous aloe vera gel with rosehip oil. Plus, we gave away 2 blue menu and show gift certificates and 3 bottles of Valencian wine. It was a great night of prizes and fun for all.
We had a special musical guest in the audience - Irish Des or Des McGillycuddy of the ShamRockers. He and fellow band mate Barry Hadley will be bringing their brand of traditional Irish acoustics to the blues in the first of hopefully many - IRISH BLUES PARTY - SATURDAY 4TH MAY, 2013.
The final band set was had the house on its feet and in a blues trance. The band was super tight and each musician was trading off guitar licks and giving the audience lots of kicks! It was a great - SUPER - night of blues. - KD.
