My awareness of the man and music of Otis Clay came about at my local blues establishment in the 1990s - Kitchener, Ontario - Canada - by the name of Pop The Gator. Otis was actually the opening performer when that club was launched 25 years ago. He was also a featured guest at the Anniversary party back in March 2015.

Mr. Clay was a frequent performer in this establishment and I had the chance to meet him on several occasions. He had a very charming personality and he really knew how to uplift the spirit of everyone who saw him perform. His gospel roots were present at every show.

I had a million photos of Otis but when I moved to Spain, I had to toss a bunch of them, never thinking that I would ever start my own blues tribute magazine??? What an idiot!!

Otis Clay, "Trying to Live My Life Without You" soul singer and Blues Hall of Fame inductee, passed away Friday, January 8th, 2016 in Chicago following a heart attack. Clay was 73.

So - I raise a glass of bubbles to Otis Clay. His love of music was infectious and his encouragement to young blues artists such as Shawn Kellerman has played its role!! The music lives on and now you are a peace.

Last concert in Toronto - Canada
