Nestor was joined by Jac van Egmond on keyboards and this was a first for us CBBlues fans to listen to this musician too!
Our visiting friend from France, Andy Boal who is an Irish delta blues showman, did an opening warmup to the show. This is a difficult feat as fans are eating but for the ones who were just drinking - the slide guitarist put on a great wee show.
Nestor, our main attraction launched into a set of Stevie Ray Vaughan numbers that sounded almost too good to be true. He had a sophisticated computer system to fill in the drums and bass, which were misssing live. I must say that I thought this was cheating and I like to "keep it real"!!
Paul Tidiman - our music director was keeping up his end of the deal with fabulous harp solos and singing - but you could tell that he didn't feel as comfortable with the SRV lyrics.
After the raffle break, the mood shifted as Jac on keys showed off his jazzy style and together with Nestor changed the mood of the party into a zen type of flowery jazz that was hypnotic and very expertly detailed.
When Paul came back on stage, the mood changed again and it was back to the basics of boogie and this launched some amazing jive dancers to their feet. I don't know how they do it - swinging and jiving and swirling around. Very impressive.
So, that is another Back Room Blues party done and dusted for another year!! Thank you all for your continued support in this Blues Adventure!!!
Karla Darocas, editor and blues music junkie!!
