WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW ABOUT THE CBBLUES JANUARY 2016 BIG LOVE BLUES PARTY

Costa Blanca Blues hosted its January 2016 BIG LOVE BLUES PARTY and fitting its name the guest headliner singer / entertainer was the lovely Linda B. Love.

It was a full house, reservations booked weeks in advance - as the CBBlues friends turned out to spread the love and enjoy a Sunday Social Matinee Blues Show. Our amazing music director - Mr "Buddy Paul" Tidiman really stepped up to the challenge and came through with a blue flag list of entertainers for this monthly Sunday Social.

Warming up the room and providing some lunching blues was our CBBlues friend from the Saturday CrossRoads mornings - an Irish delta blues showman - Andy Boal. It was a spur of the moment performance but he started pumping out some delta classics while the room ate their mid-day Bar Mediterraneo Menu. Then Buddy Paul joined in on harmonica to round out some more dangerously dedicated blues tunes. That was fabulous. I love spontaneous blues!

Then is was time for the main attraction to hit the floor!

Linda B. Love came out looking sexy in a hot bright red outfit and high kicking red heeled boots. It wasn't long before she had the crowd entwinded in her enticing blues tales.

THE SECRET IS OUT * LINDA B. LOVE CONFIRMED TO HEADLINE CBBLUES SUNDAY MATINEE PARTY

It has finally been confirmed that the magnificent blues / gospel diva Linda B. Love will headline the Costa Blanca Blues monthly matinee concert on Sunday, JANUARY 24th at 14:00 in the Salon at Hostel / Bar Mediterraneo in Teulada.

“It has been a few months in the making to get this amazing yet busy talent to commit to our monthly Sunday Matinee Social” explains Karla Darocas, CBBlues organizer.

“We have had to keep the whole thing a secret from the CBBlues network of fans until it was confirmed.”

Linda B. Love is an American-born entertainer. She began her career as a model and then moved into acting. However, she admits that she was brought up singing gospel but would spend most of her time with her late grandmother singing blues.

VINTAGE MOTORBIKES ARE FEATURED IN THIS VIDEO WITH AN R.L. BURNSIDE TUNE - THE RESULT IS INFECTIOUS!

In this video you will see nothing of R.L. Burnside and his band as the whole video depicts the motorcycle racing and antics of the ‘Hell Drivers’ – for reasons that elude me. Nostalgic bikers may well enjoy this though.

ETTA JAMES GETS TASTY AND TASTEFUL ON HER VERSION OF LITTLE RED ROOSTER

Way back when I was a nipper (1964) The Rolling Stones took Little Red Rooster to number 1 in the UK chart and since then I've always liked it but never played it. In fact I never heard anyone else doing it live. Recently I decided to practice it up for possible inclusion in my musical set, and my research revealed that there are lots of versions of the song.

TRIBUTE TO OTIS CLAY * A MAN OF FULL OF SUNSHINE

My awareness of the man and music of Otis Clay came about at my local blues establishment in the 1990s - Kitchener, Ontario - Canada - by the name of Pop The Gator. Otis was actually the opening performer when that club was launched 25 years ago. He was also a featured guest at the Anniversary party back in March 2015.

Mr. Clay was a frequent performer in this establishment and I had the chance to meet him on several occasions. He had a very charming personality and he really knew how to uplift the spirit of everyone who saw him perform. His gospel roots were present at every show.

MESMERISING SLIDE GUITAR THE CATFISH KEITH WAY

‘Dark is the night, cold is the ground’ and ‘Going to see the King’ – Catfish Keith

I’m pleased to be a friend of Catfish Keith and his wife Penny Cahill as a result of his tours around Europe and, in particular, the UK. He is a formidable mostly one man act (except on one piece where Penny sings with him on 'I'm satisfied, tickled too') in the tradition of the great blues men. Catfish’s style is, predominantly, country blues.

RISING SUN BLUESY & ROOTSY WITH LEAD BELLY AND HIS STELLA

‘House of the rising sun’ was, of course, brought to popular acclaim by ‘The Animals’ in 1964 and this is the version with which I was familiar until a few years ago when I came across a CD collection of Lead Belly’s music at a music store in Somerset, England.

According to entries in Wikipedia, this song has also gone under the name of, ‘Rising Sun Blues’ and if one listens to the YouTube clip (below) it is clear that although the melody of the song is very similar to that used by The Animals the underlying chord progressions do not match.
