This September 2016, Costa Blanca Blues is launching its 5th season of supporting, celebrating, appreciation and sharing the best Blues music and musicians and keeping this profoundly humanistic music form alive and kicking for future generations to enjoy.

CBBlues is planning its 2nd annual Blues harmonica showdown called HARP ATTACK on Sunday the 18th of September, 2016.

It will be a grand reunion of performers from last year plus some new ones, hence boasting the largest gathering of Blues harmonica players ever on one stage in Spain - dueling with each other and blowing the roof off of  the Grand Salon at Bar Mediterraneo in Teulada.

Back for his second year of dueling, will be UK born and raised performer Peter Murphy hailing from Dartford, Kent.

Peter was only nine years old when he got the Blues bug from his sister Mary (age 12) who was a big fan of Sonny Terry and Brownie McGhee.  He was also influenced by his sisters other favourite singers - Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra and their songs.

From such a young age, Peter had a love for the blues and when he was only 18 he discovered the blues harmonica master Sonny Boy Williamson and then Peter knew his destiny was to blow a blues harp.

According to Peter, Sonny Boy came to perform at the Black Prince, Bexley in 1963 as a surprise guest to the YardBirds and Peter was there to witness the magic!

Peter and his wife Carol started coming to the Costa Blanca on holiday a few years ago and discovered CBBlues and before long they were part of this big blues family.

"In the Valencian blues scene, Danny Boy Sanchez really shines," expresses the British bluesman.

Peter with Danny Boy
"Danny Boy’s technique and variety of styles not only equals Sonny Boy Williamson, in fact I thinks Danny Boy surpasses Sonny Boy,” he concludes.

"Another great harp player on the Valencian scene that stands out for me is Buddy Paul.”

Peter is very excited to be joining the CBBlues Harp Attack / Dueling Blues Harmonicas Showdown this year and he promises fans that it will be a grand contrast of styles as each player brings their personalities to the stage and encourages and challenges each other!

“It was an honour and a pleasure to play with them all last year at Bar Mediterraneo in Teulada,” admits Peter.  “And, I am really looking forward to September 18 and the opportunity to join them all again!”.

“All the participating performers were more than willing to pass on their advice and techniques, so if there are any wannabe Blues harp players out there, then come along and enjoy this years event!”

In conclusion, Peter announces, “We have made some good friends through the Costa Blanca Blues and their events including Karla Darocas and her husband José.¨
